Stihl BR 800?

I have 4 big  contracts that require a powerful blower. One of my contracts has a large driveway with 11 horse chestnut trees marking the route either side of the driveway. As you can imagine, there are a lot of leaves and twigs produced. I currently use an old Stihl BR 420. However, it is very limited in what it can move. I would like a blower that could blow all the leaves up the driveway so that I can direct them into the woods. I would ideally like to stay with Stihl, although Echo appear to produce some good blowers. I am seriously contemplating the BR 800. I would appreciate any feedback, good or bad on the 800 and any other recommendations people may have. Thanks.

Had the Br800 for a year, can't speak of any other brands but the Stihl Is a beast! Power is just ridiculous, numerous people in the trade I've worked with have been amazed at how much power it has

I have a leaf clearance contract with 37 full grown London Plane trees spread over a Business park and I simply couldn't do it without the BR800

The power is huge, starts easily and best part is you can turn it off , have a conversation with the client and start it up again without taking it off your back. The big backpacks are a little heavy so being able to keep it on your back instead of taking it off and picking it back up every time someone wants to talk to you is a great feature.

Only thing to bear in mind is it guzzles fuel but I'm guessing all the blowers of that size do.

    • Thanks, Jake. That's really reassuring. Although it wont be used in full until the autumn, I'm thinking about buying it next week. Might as well put it to use ASAP. Your comment and the previous from Bee really helps in my decision. If others have negative views, I am willing to listen. These are far better comments than looking at reviews and videos online. Most of the videos appear to be of very dry leaves. For some reason, that doesn't seem to happen in the autumn!

Yes luckily I knew someone that had one and had a go with it before I bought mine.

It peels wet leaves off the car parks with ease

Had used a BG 86 for years and had worn my arms out using it so in October decided a BR800 was a must have purchase. Was very pleased with it wondered how I had managed without on, spent nearly an aftenoon moving the needles of 3 very large swamp cypress trees. The power on wet debris on wet longish grass was incredible, the area floods from the river bank so anything that wet was moved so easily into heaps, normally a rake, rake and rake some more job.

Like the adjustable handle and tube length.

Have a small van so storage can be a headache when i need to squeeze things in

always wear the ear defenders now as can be a bit louder than anything else so sometimes Im concious of who else is around or consider neighbours before I fire it up

  • Most of my kit is Stihl but when I needed a big blower I went for the Husquvarna, great tool & I believe the vibration level is lower than the Stihl, that was really important for me.

    • Which Husqvarna did you go for Neil!

      • 570BTS pricey but definitely worth it imo.

  • We clear many heavily wooded very large commercial sites, requiring 2 visits a week in the Autumn due to the volume of leaves. Don't buy the Stihl ! We run Echo PB  8010,s  they outperform the Stihl on every level, we have sold the 800,s after using them side by side when the Echo came out. The difference is marked and the Echo,s have been totally reliable for the last 3 years. The 8010 is acknowledged as the most powerful blower available in the UK, Echo have brought a more powerful 9010 but only available in USA sadly.

Tech specs Echo power 4.2 kW, Stihl power 3.2 kW,

Echo cubic feet per minute 1071, Stihl 912.

And the important one which is the blowing force ,Echo 44.4 Newton's,  Stihl 41 Newton's.

GET THE ECHO IT BLOWS THE STIHL AWAY!!!

The Husqvarna at 37 Newton's and less cubic feet etc isn't a contender.
