Stihl BG 86C - Stiff Flywheel

The flywheel on my Stihl BG86C Blower is giving me a lot of resistance when it rotates which keeps breaking the springs in the pull start. When I take the spark plug out it rotates normally and then when I put it in again it gives me a lot more resistance. What's causing this resistance and what should I do next?

Thanks for any help, David

  • I'm sure you realise there will be a lot more resistance with the plug in + any "resistance" to the engine turning over, shouldn't have any bearing on the spring in the pullstart........ in fact if the engine was seized solid, the spring should still be fine   I can only think that you're not fitting the spring correctly in the pullstart...... you're not over-tensioning it?................ Is it fitted the wrong way round?

    • Thanks mate, yeh your right I tried a pull start from another blower and it worked fine. I'll try and work what I'm doing wrong with the springs then :D
