  • Bought the hedgecutter HSA85, some 18 months ago as needed something quiet for use round an old peoples home. Was only intending to use it there but found it so good, always have it in the van now for frequent use. roughly 2.5 hours of steady use on one charge.  Large jobs, still use the petrol one with the longer blade. Really advisable to have a second charged battery in the van. One strange thing with it is the gearbox isn't particularly well sealed and fills with cuttings/debris..... hasn't actually caused any problems to date but does seem a slight design fault.

Bought the chansaw, MSA200 about 12 months ago..... again, brilliant.  The very narrow chain cuts through thick stems, branches effortlessly....... I've cut through trunks 12" thick with no problem.  Definitely prefer it for most use over the petrol MS260. So light in comparison though the battery goes flat fairly quickly..... about 30 minutes of steady use.

I just mine from a local dealer...... probably a few pounds more pricey than some deals on the internet like  F R Jones but I'd have had to go down to south London to pick up and couldn't be bothered with the hassle.

    • Thanks for your input Graham.

I’m really thinking of going cordless with hedge cutters and strimmers and maybe even the pole pruners. I’ve been looking into the backpack battery as well, ( AR 3000) they are high priced but you can easily run all day on them.

Im thinking less maintenance, less noise and vibration.

      • Don't think I'd fancy having a cable from the backpack to the tool............ never tried one but I'd imagine it would hinder manoeuvrability.... on the other hand, it does make the tool significantly lighter.  I wonder if having the backpack battery might be a bit uncomfy in the hot summer.

      • I did think about the summer time, but I’ll give anything a try Graham. Yes it should keep the weight nice and low!

  • We've got the standard and long reach hedge trimmers, strimmer and blower.  All really good although lacking a little bit of the top end grunt of petrol for really tough hedge jobs.  Blower is generally fine for most jobs apart from leaf clearance time when it struggles in terms of battery life.

    • I’m gonna keep some Petrol equipment Chris as back up, and like you said for the really tough jobs. I’m just thinking in this day and age everyone is trying to go green and having this equipment for housing estate and more built up areas is the future. Only time will tel I guess :-)

If money is no object i think pellenec do a portable solar panel that you can charge your battery or spare battery whilst you work - nice idea although no doubt mega bucks

        • pellenec are well out of my price range Dan! Maybe one day though. But it’s a great idea from them!

LOL agreed -- although TBH i dont actually know how much they are -- everyone just says too expensive -- ive never managed to actually find a price list , although i havent tried that hard.

            • Same hear to be honest dan, maybe worth a look. Like you said you just seem to steer clear because everyone says they are to expensive. To be fair to sthil they have always done me well so I’ll stick with them for now.
