Staff contracts

I have had a temporary employee for a bit and want to take him on full time, what type of contract do I need to give them, anybody have a template?

He will be a full time labourer / landscaping assistant.

If they don't wear their uniform to work can I send them home without pay?

If they are late can I tell them to do one?

If they use phones on site, can I send them home with no pay?

If they swear on site, can I send them home with no pay?

If they break tools, can I charge them?

I have had enough of being the friend and want to demand a bit more from my staff or future staff.

On a side note, I keep getting told by (them) not to employ as it costs so much to employ people, but surly you put this in all your costings? I want my business to grow, I can't do everything.

  • Anybody pay on a Performance related basis and can this be done?

  • Sorry about this, can i take someone on part time, less than £110 a week and then i don't have to worry about paying tax and ins for them?

  • he has been, i think now i have to take him on.

Looks like to me, he ought to be self-employed for a bit. ( 3 months or so ) Let him invoice you his labour services weekly.

It's still early days for your business. Winter's coming and the contracts you have can easily be delayed..causing you no end of headaches..the last thing you need then is a full-time employee to worry about.

  • will do, got to run to work now

This is the best site I have found in the past :

    http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/layer?r.s=tl&topicI...

It has an interactive tool that asks questions and creates a bespoke employment contract template you can download and use...

  • I don't think i'd enjoy working for you.

    Breaking tools-no pay!

A business but feels like a school, if I could enforce corporal punishment I would

Good grief -  send someone home ? Are you running a business or a school?

I would seriously get some training if I were you before becoming an employer.

Don’t break my tools then, in all seriousness, it is beginning to get on my nerves how careless some people are.

  • thanks for all the links.

He was fantastic at the start, now he should be getting the idea, getting faster and not need me telling him everything and he certainly should not be, texting on the phone, standing around, being careless with tools, swearing on site very loudly, not wearing his uniform and my favourite when I ask him to do something not say “why what you gonna do”

Just a snippet into my new problems.

If i was at school evrybody would be clapping, fight, fight, fight.......:)
