Shade tolerant grass seed

Bit of a general question although I do have a couple of sites in mind, and sorry if it seems like a a bit of a daft question. But, how shady does it have to be to really benefit from shade specific grass seed ? ie dense shade, dappled, shady 50% of time .

And is it worth mixing in some prg as shady is slower to germinate?

Thanks, Glen

  • Not much help to you, I know, but I put some shade tolerant seed down last September at one site. It germinated very quickly and now looks lush. I am waiting to see just how shade tolerant it is as there is an oak and a sycamore at the one end. From this experience, I wouldnt worry about slow germination.

    • Thanks Tony. Good to know. I suppose if the conditions are right anything will germinate in good time.
