    Another view:

Given it's an employed position I would suspect there are many many hidden benefits ( constant pay,reg hrs, company vehicle, holiday pay, sick pay, pension, security, training etc)

So for some that pay means security, especially if a family to support.

If as a self employed person you can charge £20 pr hr for 2000 hrs a year = £40000. Take off tax, overheads ( vehicle, fuel, tools, insurance etc.), factor in sickness & holidays I suspect you would be possibly worse off....

So, is there are case for similar / more pay for less hassle that you leave on your desk at 5.30 until the following day...?

Not as simple as it seems eh ?
