Sawn Yorkstone

I am using sawn yorkstone for the first time and much of it has arrived with big saw lines through it, not very deep, maybe about 1mm but very visible and it spoils the smooth look...and the supplier says that it is normal-wonder if you have any experience of it and if it is indeed normal. We are now having to buff it all to get rid of those lines which is going to add more time to the job. Thanks for any advice.Susan

Hi Susan...do you have an image or two we can look at?
  • Susan,
This doesn't sound right although a photo would be useful. Sometime this can happen if the saw is blunt or not set up properly. Who's the supplier?

  • English City Stone is the supplier. There are about 50% like this, the rest are beautifully smooth and unmarked. I have put 2 pallets together of 'rejects' and will probably return them if the buffing treatment doesnt work tomorrow. But they are still insisting that its normal and will wear off in 2-3 years!! I think it sounds a bit off.
  • Sue,
I would reject this. Tell them you expect it to be correct NOW not in 3 years time. We use lots of sawn stone and I've never seen any like this before - I'm quite taken aback to be honest!

I agree with Dave here....these stones look like they should be in the 'seconds' pile.
  • ok thanks a lot guys, that was my instinct, but I wanted to make sure.

    Hi Naman

As an exporter, perhaps you could help Susan in her question...is it acceptable, in your opinion, to have sawn stone supplied with these marks on?
