Hi I went 5 years ago and found it a good afternoon out, the exhibition covered a wide range of companies everything from tractor type grass care to kids play equipment, the big names like Stihl and Ego were there of course and loads of other random related industries, I remember being treated to a very nice free coffee and biscuits by a Dutch company who made artificial sports pitches and a very earnest Chinese dude insisting I take brochures about ordering thousands of laser cut hedge trimmer blades. Although you were issued with a scannable badge, none of the reps on the stands quite knew who anyone was, and whether you were worth dealing with or not, but you can pick and choose which are of interest and there were goodie bags of promotional items given away with varying degrees of generosity on a lot of the stands, not sure if it's the same now but for me it was nice being able to see the equipment and get an over view of the whole industry that we are a small part of
Only an hour and a half drive away , seems a shame not to go .
It was like a big day out getting on the train from Leeds to Birmingham , made me realise i live a sheltered life working in the countryside and villages so it was a bit of an overwhelming experience lol .
Very enjoyable day the machine stands were very busy , plenty to look at enjoyed the wild flower turf stand and got lots of free seeds courtesy of Boston seeds and Tudor products were a friendly stand with brilliant products even free flap jack .
On the day i went there were no machine demonstrations for some reason but still plenty to see , found the experience inspiring and its very handy for the train .
It made a change and reinforces the fact that we are connected to a massive industry which is easy to forget when you are on a kneeling mat weeding a border listening to the birds and bees .
Ha ha I know what you mean, spending all day out in the sticks it can be a bit daunting going to the sprawling metropolis!
I went three years ago and spent quite a bit of time discussing the virtues of mechanically cleaning block paving versus pressure washing with several firms trying to sell me the machines and brushes to do it.
It's worth going every couple of years just to keep abreast of current offerings & technology.
Not a great deal to buy on the day, but there are possibly a few good deals for orders taken at the show.
We used to use it as an informal meet up opportunity and we have hosted a few LJN coffee meets in the past.
A good opportunity to stock up on pens, jotter pads, mugs and calendars not that I've ever been so junvenile to try to collect the most out of group of friends 😉
Travel wise, an easy somewhat central location but watch the car parking charges 😳
We would ech Gary's thoughts and use it to chat to regular suppliers such as Richard at Progreen Weed Control
In recent years plenty of pens to be had, in past years other free goodies such as mugs and gloves but this seems to be lacking more and more!
I went for a morning a couple of years ago. I used to go when I worked for a National company when Saltex was at Windsor so the central location is better for me now. Its OK plenty of nice machiney to look at. I wouldn't say I got alot out of it but you do get to catch up with a few faces. i always get the feeling its not really aimed at sole traders. Although our collective buying power must be pretty impressive!! But its in November the days are short so why not have a day out, its sort of work.
Thanks for replies, as it's in November I can afford a day away so I'll go along. I guess when working alone a lot it can give you a bit of 'drive' to chat to others in the industry and get a few new ideas.
