Hello all.

For those of you that have read my posts I have been in a dilema for the past several months deciding upon which lawn mower to buy.

I live and work in Hamburg, Germany. Trying to find lawnmowers that stripe is like trying to find rocking horse poop!

Any way I finally found one of the Honda pro range for sale over here and it works out approx 300pounds dearer than buying from the UK I have not included P and P yet!

If I were to buy from the UK I had settled on the lawn flight pro model approx 1050 pounds (im typing on my german keyboard please excuse the pounds)

Anyway I stumbled on this sabo model here is the translation. What you guys think please. Or should i just import the lawnflight pro. However Im worried about warranty etc etc.

  • I've said it before, but I personally think the relationship with your nearest repairer/supplier is more important than the machinery you buy.

Whatever mower, or anything else, you choose, it WILL break down at some point. It's usually the smallest of things, like a cable or spring or something, but it WILL be at your busiest time. You need to be able to drive in to the repairer, and know he'll have what you need on the shelf. You also want him to put you to the front of the queue; certainly same-day and ideally while-you-wait. Forget warranties, you need it repaired fast and efficiently or you're losing work. Having a back-up machine is essential, but even so you don't want to be waiting weeks for repairs because you bought a machine from the UK, and the local guy doesn't work on them or something.

I'd find the supplier you want a long-term relationship first, then buy what he recommends.

Agree 100% with Paul. Any upfront savings could well be insignificant when compared to future repairs and the need for 'priority' service. Appreciate upfront costs can be a killer, but I suspect the realities means it may not be as large as you perceive.

A colleague I know bought a Hayter 53 Pro online 3 or 4 years ago. Came flat packed in a box with no engine oil or PDI. He saved about £70+, but spent a while building up, getting some oil and adjusting cables (which is when I got call as the drive clutch cable needed adjusting to be able to use it).

Go find a dealer and butter him up. Now is a good time. Leave it a month or so and you'll be in a queue as spring arrives

  • Mannn....

All I needed was another wise and positive comment then I could have thanked three wise men.

    However

Two wise men have responded, thank you Paul and thank you Gary.

I am about to try and transfer monies from UK to my German business bank account, should be fun! Then I will proceed with finding a local dealer and haggling

Does the price approx 1300euro look ok for the tech spec of the mower. 5kmph seems like the perfect brisk pace.

Only a 65 litre bag but it comes with Sabo TurboStar System... Cool ehh!!

    One more question.

Should I buy an after market blade as I have been told the original blades comply with EEC noise directive. Perhaps with an after market go faster blade it would be the Sabo TurbStart Kompressor suck your sward system!!! teehee!

  • Cedar Garden Services

I think you posted something about Sabo earlier, I had the email but no online post?

What are your thoughts on the Sabo, or go with the Honda Rasenmäher Walzenmäher HRD 536 QX. The honda is 1,530euro so a good couple of hundred euros more than the Sabo.

I spoke to Toro Belgium today who sent me their brochure. Toro were absolutely 100 percent amazing. The lady immediately sent the brochure out to me. I would post it on here but its all in a funny foreign language so probably no good for you. So Toro could be taking the slight lead. Bloody expensive though.

    Look familier?

    Price: 1699euros

  • Just an update.

We have decided to go with the Honda HRH 536 roller. Cant be a bad mower as they were used in the world cup.

We can post updates and if anybody has any questions then please fire away.

An update will come when it is delivered and through out the season.

Good choice. Make sure you nudge it forward as you engage the drive clutch and you will help preserve it.

  • Hi nick.

Please remind me to do that when I finally get it!

Oh I have to somehow negotiate it into the Landrover!
