running a course on gardening

hi,

does anyone have any experience or.  advice they can give me on running small garden courses.  i only want to run small courses over the autumn/winter/spring season on things like planting in shady areas, planting for winter interest, dividing perennials, propogating etc..

any tips or reccommendations good or bad would be greatly appreciated; especially on locations, size of group, cost, insurance (if needed) duration..,most popular days/time

many thanks

Perhaps you could have a word with your local college or even local garden centres and do something in collaberation with them?

  • I would start by seeing what else is available in your area and how well attended they are. Is there an opportunity in the market? If you really think there is then send off for course info from as many places as possible and see what you can copy from that and what they charge. Once you have built a course plan you can begin to publicise it and see if you get any take-up. If you do, and only when you do, should you then start to think about the other elements you list about insurance etc
