Rotating handled secateurs

I need to replace my secateurs, ive been using the Bahco ones linked below for the last couple of years and find them very comfortable to use, and they hold a decent edge.

Doing a recent search i found the same model but with a rotating handle, and wanted to know how it gives them a supposedly better cutting performance, having never tried any like this previously.

Can anyone offer personal experience of rotating handled secateurs?

It's all about Felco secateurs. I have both rotating and fixed handles. I prefer the fixed handles. I think!

  • With Nick on the Felcos but I find the rotating handle easier to use as the handle is thicker and easier to grip.Had a look at the bahcos, they don't appear to be very well made or durable and also noticed they don't do spare parts blade spring etc.Might be worth paying the extra for Felcos
  • I've only had one pair of secateurs for the past 3 years since starting up, felco 7s with a rotating handle, so I don't really have anything to compare them with, but I don't think I'll ever need to replace them unless I lose them.

  • I've had both and prefer the fixed handles.

  • Fixed Handles here, could not get on with rotating ones but hey that's just me.

  • ...and me!

  • Felcos with fixed handles for me, but if you were pruning continuously with out doing anything else I suppose the rotating handles may be of some benefit.

The leather holster shown here, which clips over a trouser pocket, rather than being threaded onto a belt is fantastically convenient and in 20 years has only fallen off once....and I spent an afternoon looking for and finding it.

  • So general consensus would be to stick with the fixed handles, thanks guys :-)

With regards the Felcos, i would like a pair but i have yet to find some that feel comfortable, to me at least. If my local outlets had a better selection i might already have a pair, but i dont want to spend that money without holding the things first! The Bahcos seem to suit my hands perfectly so i'll stick with the beer money option for now. Cheers

  • Sounds like i'm on my own here but I use Wolf Garten - don't think they do rotating handles?

  • Ditto when i was using them but don't buy felco anymore.
