  • Never tried it myself, I always spray WD40 on the blades before and after use.

We used to use the Stihl cleaner (...and it is good, but expensive).

Our business neighbour (a car valeter) recommended G101 cleaner, we tried it, worked well and he got us 5L container of it. Dliute to suit, then can be used to clean the whole machine, wash off and then lube. Make sure you use suitable gloves ;)

Would think that brake cleaner is an expensive solution??

    • Hi Gary, are you using the autosmart G101 £35 ish for 5l ? As there seems to be a selection of variants on ebay Stonewhite for instance at around £10 ?

      • PRO

Yes, think it’s the autosmart one ( in a blue container ). Ours was about £25 via the valeter.

Last for ages with the right dilution, with the added benefit of keeping the vans clean :)

We use one of those cheap 5l sprayers ( as it stays in the yard ).

  • I've never used anything and never had a problem............  the cutters work fine......... I've always assumed the cutters just rub the resin off if it builds up.

    • PRO

The sap resin builds up, gums the blades and can make them not slide together properly / closely and thus gives a poorer cut.

It also saps ( no pun intended ) power :)

As an aside, a clean smart machine always looks better and shows a bit of care/pride in them.

    • PRO

It’s worth using a resin remover the blades glide so much better. On the battery kit there’s less resistance

  • PRO

It’s basically a foaming oven cleaner

we use a cheap foaming oven cleaner that isn’t more than £7 500 ml can

    then use wd40 to lubricate

  • PRO

GT85 smells nicer and has PTFE lubricant in it.

Will have to try oven cleaner..

  • PRO

Is oven cleaner suitable if it goes on plastic trim /cowlings / Aliminium etc ?
