I love rendered concrete ponds, they are neater, you can jump in and clean the out without the worry of puncturing. The concern over chemicals wont be a problem, as you would need to seal the pond once it has cured anyway. HOWEVER, the problem with the rendering option is that it is only as good as the brickwork/concrete you are attaching it to and for this reason, I would go for a liner replacement.
I also like render for the above reasons but i would only use it on something i had built.
Thanks Colin, Simon.
The pond structure in question does actually have some visible cracks in the face-brickwork, so I guess it could be unwise to render it and expect it is a 100% sound structure..
Any advice on a semi-flexible render(if that exists), or a suitable pond liner please?
