Replacing a lawn

One of our clients has two areas of lawn either side of their front door (its a large Georgian house - over 2 acres of gardens) - 4 years ago the owner decided they wanted to turn one side into a wild flower meadow - we've succeeded with that!!! They now want it back as a formal lawn !!!   - Its around 30' square, completely level, but completely covered with wild flowers.

Do you think we can get away with spraying it off with Roundup (in a month or so) giving it a deep scarify when the roundup has killed the wild flowers, then just laying turf onto the area?? We are after a quick (cheap) solution to the problem.

I don't think all of the wild flowers will have all germinated with in the next month so the spraying won't get them. I'm not sure if they will come through the turf but if they do use a selective on them.

  • as dave c says too early for the herbiside and  spraying a newly laid lawn is not recomended so its down to mowing reguarly for a coupple of months before spraying  and some of the wild flower seeds can stay dorment for a few years

Thanks, I realise it is not the "right" way to do it....but needs must and I really don't have the time (or energy) to clear off the wild flower turf, dig it over, re-level and lay new turf. I won't spray until it starts regrowing in April ish.....

It's got to look pucker for July, as there is a big wedding  if COVID allows 😊

Surely you need to rotovate it before turf?
