I have just bought a new house and have grand plans for the outside spaces. I would like to have a shallow reflection pool on a raised patio. This would possibly cascade into a rill and flow towards another small pond.
My intention is for these to be shallow and not have any fish however the wildlife benefits of having a less formal pond as the bottom of the run sway me. Obviously though trying to rationalize the 2 styles may not work.
My other option is to have the reflection pool completely seperate as pumping back into it will obviously disturb the water surface and ruin the effect. However this may not be a problem as it is right outside a large window and therefore visible from the living room so the effect will still be good when the pump is off.
Basically i have very little experience of ponds or water features of any kind. I am confident with the physical construction of it all but know very little about the important stuff like pumps, flow rates, filters and all the basics.
All comments, links to information, good books welcome.
Stacks of info online about fish ponds etc but little on shallow formal ponds.
Many Thanks
