Reciprocating saw

Never owned one or used one until yesterday
Oh my !!! Game changer for cutting a stump out of the ground for a fence post or replanting etc.
Have any of you guys used one or considered trying one. Obviously way quicker and cheap interchangeable blades mean no cost issue. I've got a makita battery range and one of these is around the £100 mark I assume you can use to cut post tops off and other things I've always used a chainsaw for but it s as ll came around after my mate wanted to cut a bamboo out of a barrel which was in the ground. The saw cut the bamboo roots and soil and wooden barrel into 4 and extraction was way easier. I'm told not great on stony soil. I guess you can fit a metal blade to cut the barrel metal bands off too

let us know of any downsides or other uses for this saw

many thanks Luke

Hi Luke, I've got that Makita rip saw. It's really useful. I hope you've got alot of batteries if your gonna use it a lot because they Cain 5amp battery in 20mins.

I used it once for cutting the top of a fence post, but it was no good for that, it didn't cut level. I use the circular saw for that instead, with a speed square clamped to the post.

I've used my ripsaw for thining out a tightly packed shrubs, anything with a lot of nails in, cutting down sheds, chopping out a shed roof, removing feather edge boards, chopping out roots, cutting out fence panels and cutting through Arris rails. Really useful demolition tool, but not a precise tool.

I love all that Makita cordless stuff, I've collected quite a few bits now. My favourites got to be the circular saw and the router.

Cheers for the reply Yh I guess for demolition of sheds it's quick you can't risk a chainsaw with hidden metal that would be suicidal but q  u as little cut doesn't matter I guess if your taking it out

my mates got an orbital sander on 5a/h battery with dust bag he rates that too

just starting to get into makita as Stihl seem reluctant to get into the battery tools

ive got a fair few 5a/h batteries do it's all good

I love all that stuff! I it's like a work shop in a bag! It was the Makita radio that started my addiction! So far I've got: the radio, drill, impact driver, rip saw, grinder, circular saw, torch, kit bag, router and the sander. Multi cutter next, then the sds drill.

270 tools in the range lol according to the pamphlet I got with the makita dab Bluetooth radio that's just turned up DMR112 nice sound to replace my hitachi/HiKoki radio all the buttons perished and fell off and randomly changed station. Not widely stocked so gone makita and everyone has a tool to borrow so advantageous. Angle grinder I got first. Now to get more bare units. May get a spotlight to run on battery next

I only bought one until a couple of months ago and have cut up an old summer house with it and was perfect on removing old decking, eats through anything and made short work of joists, bought the dewalt one but hungry on batteries if using loads...

So u recommend, good to know

I have used (mains) Makita reciprocating for demolition (e.g. Pergola), using a combo-blade that will cut wood or metal and was great each time I came across an old screw ...

But as others have said I have never mastered cutting a straight line with it

Interesting I didn't realise you could get a combo blade I thought u had to get wood or metal and swap 👍
