reccomend a nailer

i have a couple of feather edge fences to do soon and dont currently have a nail gun.i think its time to buy one but i don't have a fortune to spend and don't do a vast amount of feather edge work.can anyone reccomend a good value model that will nail feather edge boards to rails easily enough but not cost an arm and a leg?i dont have a compressor so needs to be mains or battery powered.

  • I personally think the Paslode frame nailer, or IM/350 is the best of the lot. A gas canister, given the right weather and conditions will do well over a thousand nails and the battery life is much better than almost all the others.
Just a personal opinion of course but its a brilliant piece of equipment.
  • what do i buy if i have a compressor ?????? i need a screw gun .....? thanks
  • It still might be worth picking up a small compressor...... I've a small basic one which cost about £90 and has proved excellent. Once you've got one, its also very handy for cleaning things with the compressed air and inflating tyres. I was originally going to get a nailer for fencing and was recommended to use a stapler instead........... fantastic. Fires up to 40mm long staples and holds really well. Bought this one for about £55.... http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp?pf_id=564178&name=air+st... and has never jammed. Found loads more uses for it..... making gates, trellis etc. Never used Paslode, sure its brilliant but if moneys tight, you can pick up a compressor/stapler for about third the price!

Why not hire, my tool hire people will hire you a nail gun for £10 (inc vat) per day, I would check out local companies to where you are!

  • Paslode is exc for putting on the rails and gravel boards, but the nails will wreck the featherboards. Buy a air frame nailer for 50mm galv ring shank nails, inc compresser and hoses will cost about £500 but along with a paslode for about £350 would be a good investment. I can rail and board 20m in under 3 hrs on my own. So it pays for its self within 6 months as long as you price the work buy the meter.
