Reasonable seed spreader

Need to buy a pedestrian spreader for a clients garden. Specifically needs to handle seed well. I currently have PG25 Broadcast spreader, and its appalling for seed. As its only for occasional use, once or twice a year, I'm not after anything over £250. Any recommendations?

  • I'm sure there are some excellent spreaders for greenkeepers, but as we're in and out of small gardens we just use Scotts easygreen domestic ones, and expect a couple of seasons out of them.  Nice and even over about a 4' swath.

  • Hi Ben,

I use the Solo 9kg spreader.. very happy with it!!!you can control left , right or direct spreading. It's enclosed and fits over your shoulder. Good for both seed n fertiliser but maybe wear a mask when applying some fertilisers.10801548681?profile=RESIZE_930x

If you're only using on smaller lawns, say upto 500sqm, then I'd just get a Scotts ICL / Hand Spreader:

I perhaps should have mentioned the lawn in question is about an acre!

    But thanks for the suggestions

    • Ben, we do some very large seeding jobs, many over an acre. We have a generic Chinese broadcast spreader, badged as Lawnflite, think as long as you go for one with a rod type hopper control rather than a cable and accept even the premium brands tend to throw heavier one side, mitigate by going round and round rather than up and down . Think ours was around £100 , alternatively Agri Fab do one with rod control under £200, we used one of these for years before the gearbox crashed. Hope that helps.
