Ransomes Motor triple.

I am hoping to bring some nostalgia to the forum, and get some info in return! lol. What I am after is you comments on these old machines, mainly on are they still a competitive mower compared to the newer units?( Down time being less due to belt drive etc, are they fast enough?)What is the approx weight?Would it really be worth saving some more monies and getting a hydrostatic drive unit, as the decks are lifted with a nice light leaver instead?I am mainly asking as I have tendered for a parish council contract and the stiga probably is not big enough, its only got the 48" deck.

  • Around here a lot of contractors are converting to rotary. And most of the councils contract out everything.yes the stiga is rotary just at full pelt it doesent cut quickenough I beleve its top speed is about 5mph!
  • IS there any grounds maintenance guys with any exoeriance of these mowers?

Have a look at the pic to see the one i mean, its not one of the newer ones.
  • I realy want a scag or grasshopper zero turn but im looking at what I can afford atm rather than what I want.

Restoration project rather than viable machine, If something breaks then it will probably be hard to source.

I am very mechanicaly minded but would not consider one for regular use, too old a machine.

Personally i would go for a great Dane Zero turn or similar...... fast as anything once you sus the steering.

    weight 350kg ish perhaps 400 I rekon
  • About £1000 im mainly looking incase i get a contract I have tenderd for. I would love a zero turn if i could get it for under£1000 and with a zero turn I could get a 48" deck and still keep up with the other contractors with their 7' gang cut due to the speed etc, then it would fit in the back of my van as I havent got a trailer yet.

whats your budget, seen some go for a snip at comercial auctions b4.
  • Yep I know! Thats why I was looking at something like the old ransomes, I have priced the contract so I can afford to hire a mower for the first couple of months then spend 3 or 4 k on a decent zt mower.

That might be a tall order, as I say have a look at your closest comercial auctions.
  • Get an Allen National 64 - See http://www.landscapejuicenetwork.com/forum/topics/allen-national-64...

This would be cheaper than renting for a few months and such a useful bit of kit.
  • What sort of mowing speed do they have?
  • PRO
We have an Allen National 68 which will be sold in the next few weeks, it is in storage in a warehouse at present but will send some pictures to you later if you are interested. These are fairly robust machines that will cut slopes up to 30 degrees (but have cut steeper than that with machine - keep that quiet) leaves a stripe as it is a triple gang mower, downside it won't pick up grass this will cut between 1& 1/2 -1 & 3/4 acres per hour dependant on terrain.

    Cheers
