Ranch style fence

A bit of advice or general input have a ranch style fence to erect, 19.2m long by 1.8m high, the wood used will be 175mm x 15mm, no posts in ground so will have to put them in, owner doesn't want panels as prefers ranch style , any info much appreciated.Cheers

  • HOw comes you are using the sizes of wood you are? Ranch fencing is usualy 2x4 or 2x6 with 4x4 posts, we like to screw together but the standard way is to nail.
  • 2 x 4 or 2 x 6?? A bit thick Kieran? Standard size I use is 150 x 19mm ( about 6 x 3/4").
I'd use 240x100x100mm posts concreted in (or use post fix), set at 1.8m apart using 3.6m lengths of the 150x19mm (or your 175x15mm). 50mm gaps between each if one sided or 100mm gaps if double-sided (lengths staggered each side.
    Hope this makes sense!

  • Think you're right. I was definitely just thinking in terms of a domestic garden Kieran

Had thought about setting 1.5m apart but to fix at 1.8m makes sense as less cutting with 3.6m always screw boards on,will also be putting a course of bricks along to stop any potential rotting of bottom board, sound advice .

    Cheers
