Yes indeed, it got a bit soggy where I was as it wasn't penetrating the ground!
This is true. I planted some 2M laurels last week. Once you get more than a foot down, the soil is still bone dry. It was like talcum powder! I'm sure we'll have plenty enough rain soon though, that dry spell is just a memory now.
