Problem starting a Sisis Aerator

I just bought a second-hand SISIS AutoTurfman Aerator and found it a real struggle to start. Does anyone else find this with the Briggs & Stratton engines they use or is it just me? If it's just me, does anyone have any tips to get the engine to kick over in the first place and then to keep it running. I would be surprised if I flooded the engine but it was a right performance juggling the choke and throttle control before it eventually started, kept on and could start working.

check choke quick , then move to off quickly as it starts or half-way

check throttle is on full initially ............

Have used the following for some info on mower engines, also gives you an insight

first thing to do is drop the petrol out of carb, clean air filter, change spark plug & take it from there alll this has been mentioned earlier in thread sound advice.

    Cheers
  • Thanks guys. Its a Briggs & Stratton 3HP engine. I did put new fuel in but the biggest problems were a) getting it to fire and then b) once it had fired, getting it to stay running. I'll take on board the advice and play a bit more with it later. It's first job is next week so lots of time to recover from the blistered fingers and sore pulling arm! LOL
    • We had the same problem on our wolf scarifyer. The problem was the fuel filter being small it clogged easily.

  • I think its not actually a fuel filter as such more of a fine screen at the bottom of the tube in the fuel tank

  • Cheers Steve. Bitch of an engine seems to sum it up nicely. Everything seems to be geared towards very slowly bringing the engine up to speed. Once its warm, no problem

this is a bitch of an engine,(saw pic on ebay of one), we have them on a mountfield cylinder mower and a scarifier, full choke to fire up and then very, very slowly open up the choke, possibly leaving it chugging at half choke till the engine warms up.should be okay once warm.
