Hi guys,

By way of comparison for us all I want to know how much you would all charge for the grounds maintenance of this property?

To include grass cutting and strimming edges, keeping driveways clean and tidy, weed control with minimal use of chemicals, cut 10m x 4m leyland hedge twice, 2 hours of miscellaneous hedge cutting when necessary, 20 or so medium size shrubs to prune as necessary.  Based on 20 visits April to December including leaf clearing and 3 visits January to March.  All waste disposed on site.  Maximium 1 hour round trip.  Use there ride on plus our own strimmers, mowers, etc.

I realise it is vague if you haven't actually seen the site but the birds eye gives rough scale and proportions.  It's just an exercise.

What do you think?

  • Just to clarify: its the property on the left, not the out buildings in the field with the sheep! Rough area from boundary to boundary 100 x 80m.
  • 12 @ £175 maybe 2 people- you plus labourer for 1 day....
  • sorry 9 mths @ fortnightly visits = 18 visits / 0r 20 due to 2 weekly =

    20x£175

    3 monthly @ £175. so basically approx 23 visits @ £175
  • Sounds reasonable. I've already put price in - will wait and see what others come up with before I say how much though!

  • It's approx 1 acre. Ride on wont cut in wet. Will be a dry weather job. Fuel supplied.

What does the ground to be mowed mesure in percentadge of an acre. Fuel for ride on suplied?

Make of ride on..... makes a big differance, some wont cut in wet.
  • I do a similar sized site (2 acres) and it take a day per week. There will be a lot of leaf clearance in autumn. Do they have much in the way of flower beds?

I found it on google maps (grid ref's), nice location!

Off to quote for a much larger site later on today (5x larger!). Fingers crossed.

PS 1 acre takes me about 2 hours to mow with my 21" walk behind including emptying etc.
  • Not many flower beds. We're actually doing some redesigning and replanning of some of the space to cut down on the maintenance a bit. Mostly just grass and hedge cutting. I reckoned it'd take 2 of us 3 hours to take care of most of it. Yeah, the leaves are a big deal! I've forgotten already what the specifics of the quote were. £120 per visit with 20 fortnightly visits April to December which includes leaf clearing. Then once a month for 3 months at same cost. Average it out between 12 months.

Hope you got on alright with the big job today. Look to be a good one?

  • Turned out he just wanted the grass cut around the house, but still a nice wee grass cut, maybe an hour plus unloading plus waste away (although may be able to find a spot on site for grass as I go), quoted £40 which he accepted. It's on the way home from another couple of jobs I have so easy to administer.

I hope you're not taking waste away too for that price by the way, especially if there will be big hedge cutting jobs to do!

  • Haha. No way. All waste disposed on site! It's in the middle of nowhere - if you can't find somewhere to have a fire or dump grass clippings out there there's something wrong!

Glad you got a nice easy one there Dan. Good man.
