Plastic recycling

After reading the forum post regarding plastic recycling, Plant pots etc it got me thinking.. Is there actually a market for a "private company" to delve in too.

And from what i can make out my answer is going to be yes on volume.

At present prices for mixed plastic loads per tonne are actually a lot more lucrative than mixed metal which has slumped to a measly £70 a tonne over the last few weeks..And they rise dependant on types of plastic. Clear plastic, for example coke bottles are around £350 a tonne.

However there must be a reason against it working or someone would have done it by now.

The only reasons i can think of is the sheer volume you would need to collect to accumulate a tonne's worth of a specific plastic.. Or is it the vast number of plastic types that would clearly be difficult to keep separate.

But to me, both these problems are solved with a bit of education and careful planning.

Or am i missing something plainly obvious?
