Photo rights

Hi
How do you go about getting permission to use photos of your clients gardens?

Do you simply email them and ask...'is it ok if...?'

Do you send them a questionnaire where they have to tick a box saying 'Ok to use pictures of my completed garden on social media/ marketing etc etc ' ?

Do you not seek permission at all..?

Just curious to know what you do...

Thanks all!!

  • Ask face to face - all mine  have said yes, caveat with some of 'please don't identify us', one in particular is a judge and wants  whereabouts to remain unknown.

I take photo's looking away from the house buildings if possible.

Hi Sarah, we have included a clause in our GDPR statement to cover photography, confirming that photos will be annonimised. We do ask as well and have never been turned down.

  • Best to get them to sign a simple release/permission note.

  • Hi Sarah,

I have it in my T's & C's however I usually ask them on completion as It's common courtesy & if they're over the moon with the job then they'll be happy to oblige & show off their garden.

    Cheers Dan.

  • Pop it in the T&Cs and include the fact you won't show people. vehicles or entrance/exits to the house or garden,

  • thank you everyone!

  • I put it in T&Cs, spelling out we aim to keep it as anonymous as possible. Also mention it in person at the start of the design / project to be sure they're aware and are happy.

Shots that show 'everything' will be for internal use and possibly to give them before, during, after pics as a reminder. Otherwise we aim to keep photos as anonymous as possible, although their cats often get in shot!

To date, never had a 'no'
