I used to trap moles a few years back. Pretty easy money when you get the hang of it. Although when I stopped trapping I'd spent 2 weeks ever day in a 2 acre meadow and didn't catch a thing. So gave it up. Its also an extra time commitment to juggle. There's ment to be good money in killing wasp nets I've heard.
Keen on this subject as well, a lot of the places I work have pest control companies in, could be a useful up sell. Had a client who was charged £75 for the first nest and £50 for every subsequent nest
Got rid of three nests in a couple of hours so a decent enough rate
I'm a bit disturbed that gardeners would even be considering this!
We are in the middle of a biodiversity crisis, and Wasps are a very important part of the ecosystem, being 'pest' controllers themselves and pollinators. Obviously they can sometimes make nests in places thats are inconvenient for humans, but I find most 'pest' companies hugely exaggerate the problems with Wasps, because they want the business. There is one ethical company that I know of, called Humane Wildlife Solutions, who advise and help with human & wildlife conflict. They never kill any 'pests' and have won numerous awards for their services. They have lots of info etc online including YouTube videos.
I really feel that we, as gardeners, are in a perfect position to educate the public on the importance of wildlife and why we shouldn't be demonising any part of it.
And I don't understand why we still kill Moles! We are no longer in the Victorian area where anything living in a garden needs to be exterminated!
Work with nature not against it, makes life much simpler!
We always leave a rail card set in our mole traps, that gives them a choice
I think that's very decent of you sir. Knowing how clever moles are they'd be able to use it.
Idealism vs realism
Im so glad you've enlightened me, I'm going to tell the Huge food factory I work for that there's no need to worry about pest control as people won't mind rat droppings in there food if we tell them we are working with nature
Hey Jake! And I really appreciate your obtuse reply! Thanks, it's helped a lot.......................
got a certificate for gassing moles etc years ago but the trench warfare style gas pellets terrified me.... bottom line is humans are by far the worst pest on this planet
