About the Landscape Juice Network

Founded in 2008. The Landscape Juice Network (LJN) is the largest and fastest growing professional landscaping and horticultural association in the United Kingdom.

LJN's professional business forum is unrivalled and open to anyone within within the UK landscape industry

LJN's Business Objectives Group (BOG) is for any Pro serious about building their business.

For the researching visitor there's a wealth of landscaping ideas, garden design ideas, lawn advice tips and advice about garden maintenance.

One of my customers is a doctor and we started chatting about diseases one can get doing gardening.

He said gardeners should have a booster tetanus jab every 7 years.

So I started investigating and found I just had the regular inoculations during childhood and a booster as an early teen.

The info on the net states to get a booster every ten years, but the doc said its better to get one every 7 years (latest scientific info). Anyhow, I am going to my GP this week to get the booster tetanus jab.

I had one last year and was told you can only have 5 or 6 in your life any more is a waste of time. They need to make thier minds up!
  • I was told four, and apparently I had them all as a kid!

Spoke to our doctor's only last week after I got my hand caught on a rusty nail, I've had five jabs.  Advised that was sufficient as Richard says, but to keep eye on any increase in inflammation.  Apparently it is contact with soil, that is important with a wound.

Mine was kept clean, thanks to our first aid kit and all was fine.

  • That's good to know. I will have to chat with my GP. The nurse was no help this time.

I used to maintain a housing site in Four Marks, near Alton, Hampshire.

Tetanus was in the soil. My dog contracted it through a wound and she died ( I had to have her put to sleep) from the complications it caused.

Luckily I'd had tetanus injections due to two accidents but it was clearly a hazard.

    • That so sad Phil. Yeah it is a risk.
