  • Does it have to be 21in cut?

    What is your budget?

I assume that you wouldn't have many access issues to take into consideration and that you would be happy to man handle it yourself or use a ramp to get it in and out of your van (or other mode of transport).

Have you considered the HAYTER HARRIER 56 - it is a 22in cut - if you go for the older model they are better at collecting grass in the wet. May be prudent to purchase a good second hand model that hasn't had too much commercial work - there are plenty available on Ebay or other sites for around the £200 mark. For a couple of hundred quid it is always handy to have a mower on hand in case your other one packs up.

  • Personaly i would go for the hayter harrier, I have used these and they are realy good! I have also used the lawnflight por mowers and they are rubbish if the grass is even slightly damp! also stiga do 21" roller mowers and these are ment to be good mowers, if anything like the mulching mowers and rie ons they do itd be realy good! Hi,

We dropped Hayter's from our fleet. The older 56 is still the best bet if you can get them. We've spent ages tracking down good 2nd hand ones. Beware there are very few good 2nd hand ones out there. They either have bent front axles or metal fatigue around the handle mounting points. The new 56's just don't seem as good as the older ones - ah it most be those rose tinted glasses looking back in time !

We have decided to go with Lawnflyte/Shanks Pro Roller mowers. Keep the bade sharp and the 'fan' clear and they do cut well even in the wet. The bad points - one piece roller with no ribbing (oh errr !) means the roller can/will spin - especially if on a slight slope. Having shaft drives seems good. 2years and only one problem with a drive cogs in one wheel. Replaced under warranty with no hassle

We've also invested in a couple of their 4 wheel Pro models to replace our Hayter Rangers 53 (our hayter 53s always seem to suffer with cable/drive/gearbox problems).

We back this up with number of Etesia 46's with Honda engines. Probably the best mowers we have ever bought used for most normal sitautions. Easy to handle, but sometimes the weight of the Lawnflytes is needed.

Above all, find a good dealer and stick with them. Sometimes it more importatnt than what you choose - especially if they are vital to your work & cleints.
  • But it isn't a 21 inch cut!

Go for a 22in cut - you will be amazed at the difference in speed and finish
