  • What size lawns is it to cut?  How many lawns a day to mow? Do you have a van or trailer / estate car to transport it? Does it need to have the ability to mulch, side discharge?  Any budget constraints?

    • The mower will be stored and used on one site, the small areas are picnic areas, play areas, roadside verges, and some sloped areas. These are cut once a week, we do have a trailer but the areas are all within easy walking distance from the machine storage area. The mower would need the ability to mulch and collect and we would only like to spend around the four hundred mark.

Nearly all professional pedestrian mowers are double that amount and above new. Have you considered second hand?

What about a Honda izy 18inch push mower?
Will last you years on a smallish site.
You would need the mulch kit but even with it you would be around the £400 mark
  • I would opt for an Etesia 46 PRO, second hand either push or self propelled. You can add the mulching blade and mulch plug to these machines if required.

    Such as http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Etesia-PHTS-Pro-46-honda-self-propelled-l...

Trust you are getting a good rate for the site as it could be a bit of a poor return on your investment if only using the machine for the one site once a week hence I guess the requirement for cheap.

    • I'm the head gardener of the site, so it wont be personally costing me anything, except from my annual budget, I am hoping to find out which are the reliable mowers to buy which don't cost the earth, but as mentioned in the thread it may cost me around £800.

Probably pick up a new Toro at a good price?
        • Ditto on the Toro: £500 or so gets a good one. Depending on the areas involved the 76cm would really speed things up and is a whisker over £800 new.

Not sure if it will help as doesn't collect, but we have ex-hire Hayterettes which would be ideal for whizzing round tight spaces, they're really light but not self propelled. If you're interested they are on our website here: Ex-Hire Machinery | Acacia Rental

Hope you manage to find something perfect! If you can find an Etesia it's probably a better machine for the job :)
