hi andy, just an update on the system i have chosen.. I went with barclays as it was easiest and the cheapest set up fee around.. regarding rates i pay 1.4% on credit card transactions and a £8 a month rental fee for the gizmo. Having this option has secured me just under 5 weeks of work already.
Now the capability has got even cheaper as price of terminal dropped by ~£40 to £59:

No fees or lock in, but transaction rate higher...so all down to the number of transactions you process / good for a small number of irregular transactions ?
Also note offer still there : "Screwfix exclusively offers £27.50 (inc. VAT) cashback on your first £1000 of transactions within the first 12 months of registration."
the terminal i have links via bluetooth to an app on my phone and then works via the 3g or wifi, which ever is available. the difference with the one i have is that i can also take card payments over the phone as well.
from what i can make out that is the one andy yes.. the unit looks exactly the same.
We use www.GoCardless.co.uk to collect membership payments. I can embed a link/button within an invoice that allows the recipient to pay immediately.
It's slightly different to mobile payments but a good service nonetheless.
