So a bank transfer will work fine?
Yes. He may need you IBAN (international banking account number) off your business bank though in order to set up the international transfer.
Just invoice them as normal, we have 3-4 invoices a month where the monies come overseas and never had a problem, sometimes the bank writes to us to tell us we have a payment coming....
To avoid being stung by bank currency exchange rates (either you or the customer will be!), look at a multi currency account like transferwise. Set-up is free, and only £5 if you need a bank card. Gives you a method of receiving payments in different currancies for fees at a fraction of the cost of banks.
Great for when you go on holiday aw well and need access to local currancy at good rates.
This is what I was thinking. There would be a cost somewhere between transferring the currency. Looks like I will have to do some more research. Thanks for your help
I'm sure obvious but no VAT on the invoice to Canada .. which might add some complexity to your accounts and VAT return if it is the only "foreign" one that you do. Or just charge VAT as normal if you prefer and Customer won't object (or better still if you are not VAT registered then No Change :) )
I agree about bank charges and currency exchange, usually very expensive for the unwary- but if you invoice, and require payment, in GBP that moves that transaction cost to the Customer
We invoice plus the vat, some customers are able to claim back, bank charges are their problem!
+1
I have customers spread around the world and all the bills have been paid in full without any issues, occasionally a friend and family member has paid me on their behalf, but usually the payment just appears in my account.
There should not be any issues with this job, because there will need to be an active UK bank account that all the other household bills can be paid from as well as care home fees etc.
I just keep in touch with overseas customers using WhatsApp, do the job and ping them photos of anything that’s relevant or even start a video call.
