Hi John, not sure what colours they do but we use Blackfriars goldstar preservative. Its oil based and will last at least five years. It requires mixing in a bucket, idealy with a drill and paddle before use. It really is a good product that is head and shoulders above the quite frankly useless water based paints such as cuprinol, ronseal etc. Avoid the green colour as its a bit lurid for some!
Thanks for this Andy , this is the sort of paint needed oil based .
Hoping the customer will compromise on colour to get a better quality paint I can predict already she will choose the Green lol from the choice they offer .
its a solvent-based paint not oil i find solvent based paint better than water based
For me, solvent-based paint is best for exteriors. Have a great day !
Hi John, I've used Sadolin Classic and been happy with results and longevity. Got around 7 years inbetween repainting at home. It's solvent based in a good colour range; did a couple of coats originally, with the first one thinned slightly. Sadolin also do an extra durable stain, again a couple of coats, but on a base of 1 coat classic.
Tell the client it has to be dark brown/black and use this
:D
Having used other creosote and 'creoseal coal tar creosote' - I now use an alternative brand. Creoseal is good for barns and things but has a tendency to stay tacky for weeks as it appears to be mixed with a form of bitumen. Have had several barrels and its all been the same.
We have a small farm, so we use a LOT of creosote treating stables, barns etc.
Product referenced is not something I would use in a clients garden as it transfers everywhere for about two-three weeks and weeps like mad in summer.
Other brands (which are more expensive) don't have this tendency.
Just my experience.
