  • Ths is a bit of a standard mod with 4x4's.

Your motor will not fail any uk mots doing this.

Before you do that, track along the air pipes that are connected to the top of the egr, you should find a plastic tube housing connected to it, its an air filter housing. Pop it open and there will be a small sponge filter in it. Remove it and clean it and pop it back in.
  • Thanks for replies folks, vans chugging constantly and only time its running smoothly is at higher speeds hopefully this solves it or ill have to look at the airflow meter also only about 3 months old.

I had a similar problem a few months ago with the Navara. Initially thought it was dirty diesel, so emptied the tank, changed the filter, and cleaned the MAF sensor, air filter, and still no luck. My mechanic looked at the EGR and couldn't find any problems. He was at a loss as to what was causing the lack or power & black smoke. Ended up having to pay £60 for Nissan to run diagnostics and it was a faulty turbo control valve in the end.

  • Remains to be seen what the problem is Andrew, will hopefully find out on Tuesday when booked in.

I'm at the point of getting rid, if I had a fiver for everyone that said agh a renault trafic when mention problems Id be quids in.

Andrew how do you find the Navara, is it the new shape/model?

  • We had problems with a Merc Sprinter. So locked the ERG valve either fully open or fully shut...can't remember which way...regardless the van only ran for a couple of miles before it stopped and would not run. Had to replace the EGR valve in the end £450 for a Sprinter, not cheap.

Hey CJ, hopefully you will get sorted out on Tuesday without having a large bill at the end of of it. I know that Nissan and Renault share their components, and the the Navara essentially has a Renault engine.

I have 2008, 2.5 Navara. I find it is a fair motor, some problems in the past over the Universal Joint, and door handles breaking, but these have been replaced under the warranty. Turbo control valve was the last issue, and it was expensive enough - around £440 if I remember right, including paying my mechanic and Nissan dealer. One important item to note, is that it is hard on the diesel. Average 20mpg towing, and 28mpg with out. Some folks say that having a hard top canopy or cover over the load bay helps with reducing the drag, and therefore improves the mpg.

  • Cheers Andrew,
Have been looking at Navara or L200 second hand, my work vehicle is my everyday vehicle so fancy something with a bit of comfort.
Hard to get one with resonible millage.
