i always find it amusing when people around here refer to wood lice -- as chuckle pigs !
I'm from the Black Country and we use the word chobbled in relation to eating but never in a gardening term that I'm aware of :-)
“Chobble a bit off” is a term I used to hear frequently indicating that you needed to cut or reduce the size of something without using much skill or finesse.
