Non pro spec weibang legacy mower

Evening all. As per the title, does anyone use a non pro spec weibang mower?

On paper it looks good, and I'm attracted by the lighter weight as the site it is for is heavy clay so churns up easy when turning in the wet. It's for one client only who is buying the machine so will get the 5 year domestic warranty. It has a briggs and stratton engine, would prefer honda or kawasaki, but the briggs and stratton engine on my weibang scarifier has never given me any problems.

It's to replace a 10 year old Honda hrh which has done well, and I'm tempted to get another but my repair guy is a weibang dealer.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated, thanks.

I think there will be a difference in performance, but not a big deal if only used on 1 lawn. The main benefit I see for the pro mowers are robustness in a multi-van situation, where there are multiple users and some lack of care. So, again, for 1 customer and leaving it on site, or in single van / user scenario not a problem.

Sensible to go for Weibang if that's the dealer you use and have a good relationship with.

    • Thanks Andrew, yes I'll be the only user and it will be left on site.

You probably know the area - waltham st lawrence and how claggy it can get around there.

I'm using Matthew at Twyford Mower Services for all my kit now, he seems to be a big fan of weibang.

I'm going to Saltex tomorrow so if weibang are there I'll have a chat.

  • Hi,

I have got the Weibang Legacy 48vb. I went for it due to lighter weight, however it is still really heavy although probably comparable to the HRH honda machines? Handles looked the same as pro version and the deck in terms of robustness. There is a good range of speeds and top speed is a reasonable pace. Perhaps it might be slightly underpowered, the pro engines are higher power rated. Collects well and not had any problems with it yet.

    • I bought mine a couple of years ago(pro version)

as said it's too heavy and the headed filler now doesn't work just grinds and won't move.

it lasted me a season and now sits in the lock up.

a know of at least 3 other users with the same issue and I wouldn't buy another one.

mice recently bought. 2 atcos which seem pretty decent as long as you change the roller bearings every season but only cost £10 a set

      • How recently have you bought the atcos? which models? How do they collect wet grass?

        • Hi

I bought one in May 2018 and another in May 2019

Much better than the hayter in the wet as they have a tri clip blade (think that's what they call it) and are light and variable speed with a metal roller

we also use the hayter 48s and a 56 but to be goat the atco is used most.

the model we use is the liner s 19 which also has easy gold handles and is to lug on and off the van to f needed.

if you get on well with your dealer you should be able to pick one for around i£700

          • Are the rollers easy enough to take apart? I found my Kaaz near impossible to do

            • I know what you mean, I had kubota 53cm which was a Honda rebadged tho with a better gearbox. Hmm the box lasted 14 months and then had to be stripped down and cost £500.

the roller for n the atco is not me piece so fairly basic and the bearings each end are changed with out removing the roller.

its not a perfect machine as they don't exist yet but for £700 and the oldest one has cost me a service, set of bearings, 2 blades and a boss as my staff haven't realised yet you carnt now rocks without damaging the machine.

ask for a demo first but I'm really impressed so far.

              • Is that atco the same as the mountfield and stiga versions? I think they're all rebadged

                • Hi Dan

                  dont know to be honest.

be surprised if it was the same as mountfield.

mine are used everyday for upto 70 lawns a week which I would be surprised if a mountfield would last that long bearing in mind one them is into its second season
