Hi  I need to replace the blades on my Stihl  Kombi HL_KM . On the L&S Engineers website they have a set of proper Stihl blades for sale at £107 plus VAT they are also selling a set of non genuine blades for £40 plus VAT .

Can anyone give a recommend be it good or bad on the non genuine blades

Many Thanks

Don't do it would be my opinion!
I put some of those on a hs45 and they were rubbish! Spend the proper money they will last far longer and you won't have to rip the machine to pieces again in 6 months like I did.

We've often bought blades from L& for various Stihl HS models (certainly for our HS45's & Scrub Cutters) and they've worked Ok. They get sharpened regularly (hard to tell if more regularly) but with no bump stop on the HS45 blades they can get damaged more often then any issue we've found on non-Stihl blades.

I wouldn't out of choice buy unknown items from unknown sellers on eBay that are safety related, but never had a problem with L&S's items.

As a point of reference we have 3 HS45s for light work and only expected them to last a full season, but are still going strong. We have budgeted to replace them, but so far.......ok

You've had better luck with them than me then. The set I got might as well have been made of plasticine!

I'm sure the quality does vary, but if you have total control over the machines use, the Stihl ones will / could well offer better value.

As said, we found the lack of bump stop on the 45s did more damage to the blades when used on hedges alongside pavements, kerbs and car parks than any problems using non-oem blades.

The lack of bump stop is a problem in the 45 but not as bad as the vibes imo!
They are great for 15 minutes of shaping bushes but after that no good as it feels like my teeth are going to fall out(well not quite bit you get my meaning!) I'm not sure how they fair on th HAV rules but it can't be very good?

That's why I said above they get light use. At the price they are almost throwaway. The HAVs are bad as they are realistically a domestic product - See Stihl for rating thus time for continued use. We use HS8x's for heavy use.

I use a 45 along side my bigger hedge cutters, good little machines, can't fault them other than the vibes, but when you have been in the game as long as I have, any machine built today is a billion times better on vibes than back in the day.... haha

Hi, my experience with non genuine blades is this and fair play I don't do a lot of hedge cutting, however, when I have purchased the genuine blades they can go a 3 months without needing to sharpen, with the non genuine blades I purchased last year for my Kombi after just one good size hedge cut i found myself having to sharpen them, and after that it seemed every time I got the trimmer out it needed a quick sharpen, I should think the quality definitely varies, but in my opinion the non genuine part is cheap for a reason and when it comes to cutting blades I can't be bothered faffing about. good luck with your decision though... cheers
    • Thanks for your comments .  I ll be getting the Genuine article always was the favoured option but thought I d check out the cheaper option .

      Have a nice weekend
