You could put a flap in the high top above the windscreen to push the ladders through. Have seen this done on box vans and it looks ok.
£210 sounds cheap for full ply lining, installing a ready made kit would be easy too. Just don't bother buying some plywood yourself and giving it a whirl without the patterns, it will be a right load of mither.
