  • Personally, I love the Stihl RM655 RS. I have used it at various different jobs and now bought one of my own. Always jams the box absolutely full. And it does as good a job as any mower I've used in the wet.

    • Thanks for you comment i didnt actually look at the stihl version of roller i was looking at the weibang and hayter might have a look at the stihl

      • I would 👍. Forgot to say also the plastic box is good. Easy to clean, no rotting fabric or tearing.

        • Hi i did have a stihl mower a few years ago with the plastic box plastic box was good but the full machine seem all plastic and cheap ending up selling it and havent bought another stihl mower i am use to using the etesia mower now am thinking a upgrade to roller mower

  • Dougie , good wet collection from a roller mower!!! Anyway yes the Stihl will collect but the build quality is crap, the roller is tiny and if the gearbox lasts 18 months you are doing well, plus very slow.  We have used Hayter 56 pro's for around 6 years and although not perfect have been very reliable and the finish is close to acylinder mower. Turn the revs up and keep the bag clean.

Not sure how big the areas you want it for but we bought a Mountfield 505RV , rear roller, variable speed. Honda engine for smaller lawns , the exit chute is nearly full width and the wet collection is brilliant. Yes ok it's not going to last forever but at £800 not bothered.

The Wiebangs we had on demo are no better than the 56 pro and are just too heavy, the 19 inch is around 68kg and the 21 even heavier, jobs hard enough without mauling these around everyday..

    Hope that helps?

Oh and don't buy a Hayter 48 vs bbc we bought one  when we wanted a smaller roller mower, the wet collection is non existent, the chute is too narrow, terrible mower that's why we bought the Mountfield.

    • Hi i did purchase the hayter 41 a few years ago wet collection non existent grass kept getting stuck in the roller so i  trade it in for the 48 bbc snd that was pretty much the same trade it on for a four wheel etesia i have  small to medium gardens so the 56 would be to big thats how i was looking at the weibang 48 seem to see loads of gardeners usuing them

      • Understood, I think you will find the Wiebang very very heavy and unwiedly partic on small to.medium lawns at around 68kg it is 12kg heavier than our 56 pros  I would try before buying. We bought the Mountfield 505 rv as ourb56"s were just too much on small to medium lawns. Used for a year now and no issues its a really nice mower to use appreciate its not pro spec but its not pro price either ! Worth considering?

        • I think i might go down to my local dealer and have i look see if they have mountfield in i know they have weibang and stihl roller mower instock

  • PRO

def not hayter for the wet i have one only brought out in the dry, stihl roller wont last the test of time, weibang great mowers and fab in the wet but roller mower damn heavy machine would be ok if doing larger properties and not in and out of the van much in the day, have recently consider a honda roller but no local dealers do them

    • The honda pro roller is about the same in the wet as our 56's but it's fixed speed and the roller bearings are open and only last 6 months. The honda hrx 476 roller is also fixed speed and is very slow and the chute is very narrow, hopeless in the wet. We have tried them all!!
