  • Neil,

Have a search on the forums regarding mowers. Just one thing to take into consideration (well more than one) is weight and size, width of mower for access to gardens via gates etc, stripes (roller) or four wheels, multching option the list goes on. Not one mower will address all of your requirements unfortunately so you will need to weight up the pro's and con's and go for the one that ticks the most boxes but don't be tempted to reduce your budget. You get what you pay for.
  • I use lawnflights and love them but they have pros and cons

    PROS
They cut no problem in the wet
    They have a roller
    They leave a great finish
    They have a mulch attachment
    Honda engine

    CONS
    They are heavy
    Drive issues
    The 19" is pants

    Hope that helps a bit
  • Wet summer....!! Here in sunny Rye I've almost stopped mowing, the ground is cracked and dry, lawns are browning up..

Have been quite happy with my Hondas soo far, they put up with all the dust I blow up really well !!!!!
  • You seem to be as passionate about Rovers as ProGard Paul is about etesia's. One of customers got a rover. Gonna wait for a nice wet day and put it to the test!! Also, after talking to Etesia dealer last rainy Tuesday I'm awaiting a call to arrange for a shot of a couple of them. Looking forward to seeing what they are made of!

Rover, brilliant mowers. Made in Australia, but don't let that put you off :->

Collect in the wet like you wouldn't believe & not too heavy either. Helps if you have a dealer in the area, we have many but sum areas don't. I honestly can't fault the Rovers I've had, I'm surprised they are not more popular.

Got a Rover 560 but recently not collecting grass as well as it should finish is not as good as the Honda, after reading about Etesia will have to try them out as seems to be a decent machine!
  • thanks guys for all your advice must admit never heard of estesia till i came on this site ill let you no wot i get

I'm sure you have already done this (sucking eggs & all that) but get a wire brush on the mesh vents in the grass box, if you can keep them clear the air circulation/collection is much better.
    Or jet wash them out
  • At the risk of receiving a swipe from a certain member for having an "obsession" with lawn mowers I am glad to be able to ask( because I can and because I want to) a question.

    Stu

According to opinion the Etesia is first class at collecting wet grass.
In my experience the Haytor is very poor

So, could I ask in your experience how the Deer compares to the Etesia and Hayter at collecting wet grass.

Thank you for braving any response.

    Graeme has it in one.
So many mowers out there on the market it's like picking which TV is the best.
Whilst I like the Etesia I feel both the Hayter and John Deere rear rollers I have pip my Etesia for cut quality but only just and you get that seamless finish where the Etesia seems more of a rough cut finish. Have to say the Deere produces lovely lines/finish, perhaps a shade better than my Hayter. The only reason I can think of is the weight of the Deere seems to be on the rear roller more than the Hayter if that makes sense plus the roller is smooth and not ribbed like the Hayter. There's also a difference is diameter. Without going out to check I'm sure the Deere is smaller thus applying more pressure on the contact surface.
Most of my customers like to see lines.
  • Gordon, I would say the the JD is slightly better than the Hayter at collecting in the wet. If you have a Hayter consider swiching to high lift blades as I have found this helps slightly.

I am glad to hear that you are getting good results with Viking. How does it compare speed wise with your Kaaz mower? I know you have the 4 wheeled version, whereas I have a roller version. Now that I have cured the immediate roller problem things are a lot better---------But, the thing is so painfully slow. I have had the rpm checked and it is correct.
So that is why I am interested in another roller mower with similar results in respect of collecting wet grass to the Kaaz but will go faster.

A mower, a mower, my kingdom for a mower (with a roller, collects wet grass, and is not on its knees when it comes to speed)

Oppressive compulsive mower disorder I am afraid, no cure!!!

Oh yes, how well do you think it would empty into a wheelie bin. Its all wheelie bins here. Brown ones, black ones, and now we are getting a blue one. The whole City is gone wheelie bin mad.
