New Lawn

When preping for a new lawn, what sand can I blend with the soil to improve the soil. Would sharp sand from a builders merchant be suitable?

    Sharp sand is fine but not builders sand adding some well rotted manure mixed with it also helps.

    sand from a builders merchant contain salt do not use it witout washing it, use horticultural sand as that is salt free
