I have both and the 261 is the better saw much more powerful than the 291. The 261 is more a pro saw than the other and made much stronger. I use the 261 for felling and the 291 on the saw horse for logging up.
Thank you - this is what I thought after reading up on the specs. If the 261 is more powerful then what advantage does the 291 have? Why would you use the 291 for logging instead of the 261?
Simply because I have it, I got it to do my lantra course and then a year later purchased the 261 which is such a more robust saw for throwing about and weights about the same.
Nick, I had a 291 and changed it last year for a 261. The 261 is much better its more robust and if you look after it will last you years. The 291 however is a good saw but it lacks the adjustable oiler and the power to run a 18 inch bar if you have a job for one! My advice is go for 261 the price diffrence isn't that much anyway!
Thanks for the advice. I picked up an MS261 today and will put it to use tomorrow!
Good call, you won't regret it.
