National Insurance Contributions........

What do you guys think about the Budget's announcement yesterday about the 1% rise in Class 4 NI for the Self Employed? This will take effect from April this year and another 1% from next April '18. I can see both sides of the argument and with the increase in Council Tax, Business rates, increase in inflation, increase in machinery etc, all these 'little' increases will make our lives a little harder.

I understand the need to increase taxes, we really did borrow quite a lot of money that needs to be repaid. But to be told catergorically by Cameron that NI won't increase as long as Conservatives are in....then to be told that they meant only Class 1 NI.

Income squeeze is worse since the Nepolionic war, with increasing costs, can consumers accomodate increase in prices or will incomes continue to be squeezed for everyone - especially the self-employed?

I think it will make very little difference. Even their own numbers suggest this. £145 million in the grand scheme of tax/ni is nothing.
I think as a nation we need to realise that if we want decent services we need to pay for them.
Too much moaning goes on imo
  • in a nut shell I think the problem is there is more people taking from the system than are paying in to it that is for all the benefits

  • PRO
I don't mind paying a bit more but I hope it actually goes to the services where it's needed.

I can definitely see both sides of the argument but we will have to increase our prices accordingly or absorb the cost .

The rise in vehicle insurance was a bit of a surprise , Having a clean driving license you expect it to decrease .

  • 1% is nothing and if it can be used to improve the NHS services, great.

What's the view on the '6 month postponement ' - will it turn out to be a complete U turn ?

The intention is clear that they intend to close the gap between the self employed and employed.

I wonder what else will come down the line ?
