Mulching Mower

Hello I have been using a Stiga mulcher all summer and it has been a godsend. I am considering using it all year round as it saves a lot of time not having to empty grass bags etc. it also has benefits for the lawns. Does anyone have any knowledge of doing the same, or any reasons not to. Thanks

As long as its not too long or wet I mulch all the lawns I can (I only offer roller stripes with weekly cuts, and these are never mulched only rolled) no downsides other than perhaps stronger growth at certain points in the year

  • Used a husqvarna one fantastic for what you said but it can cause long lush growth which is hard to mulch into  the lawn I would use it spring early summer and again in autumn. In thesummer or high growth phase I would collect

  • I have been using Stiga mulchers for ten years now with no issues at all. I have had many of my clients for longer than that and so have mulched the same lawns/grass for that length of time. As we all know, every job is different. Every area of grass behaves differently. At the moment some are still very dry while others have completely greened up and are growing very well. Across all these varied jobs over time, the Stiga mulching decks have proved themselves. There has been no downside and no problems arising on any job due to mulching. Don't let anyone tell you that mulching can cause problems, it won't.The obvious point is that for mulching to work properly, the grass has to be cut regularly. But then that's what we do isn't it. Having said that, just yesterday I mowed a cemetery with the Stiga that had gone three weeks and one day since the last cut, due to the dry weather. The grass wasn't too bad but had areas that were longer and had long ends all over. The finish was perfect.

I also have a John Deere Z535M [48in deck] which is side discharge [mulching kit available] which I use for playing fields as it is very fast and playing fields do not require collection/mulching. It is amazing how much cut grass is thrown out and is visible as compared to the Stiga. Mulching decks still impress me even now after all these years.
