Moss on Tarmac

I appreciate this question has been raised a few times. However, I do require further advice. I have been asked to quote for the maintenance of the grounds for a block of flats. A large amount of work in the first instance, one of which is the removal of Moss from the car park. Previously, people have suggested MMC Pro, which looks excellent. However, reading the small print, it suggests this is incfredibly powerful and the user needs approprate training. I have not had training in the application of various chemicals and am therefore nervous about using MMC Pro. Is there anything else out there that is effective, but, does not require a licence to apply? I hae also thought about using the Power Broom for the Stihl Kombi unit. People have touched on this, but, I am still up in the air as to whether this would be effective. An expensive item if not effective. Has anyone experience of the power broom? As always, advice gratefully received.

If you are using any chemicals in a professional capacity you really need the training and appropriate public liability insurance to carry out the task. The stilh power sweeper is very good on tarmac but it's hard work and is not perfect at removing moss unless it has been treated first.  You will also have a lot of loose tarmac to clear away too so factor this in with your waste disposal.

  • I echo Dave's reply. If you are applying any chemicals make sure that you have the correct certificates and training. They can do a lot of harm and cost you even more in fines if applied incorrectly. I have had great success with Wet & Forget but it takes time to work which wouldn't work in your situation.

  • How bad is the moss? If you are getting into ground maintenance, you really NEED to get certified to use chemicals, so go book a PA1/6 course.

  • Thanks for the replies. As my business develops, I am aware that further training will be required. Based on these replies, I really do need to do the appropriate training. One for January - Thanks.
