Hi

Does anyone have a view on the best solutions for removal and hopefully, regrowth of Moss and Algae particularly on Natural Sandstone ( unsealed)

There appear to be many chemical and "old wive's tale" solutions but I would be interested in the view of forum members

Thanks

Thanks

  • Mogeton, a powder from progreen was recommended to me last week by Paul Forster. Its on its way to me now. He's had success with it used at the recommended concentration with a high flow rate to saturate the area concerned. He said so long as there is no rain expected for 24hrs or so it works a treat. Its about £50 delivered for 750g.

  • Thanks Alasdair. The area I have is shaded from Sun and Wind and dries infrequently. I see it being a problem over the winter. I would be interested in your view once you have evaluated it. Given the cost of the patio it's a small price to pay to keep it up to scratch and once it takes hold it looks awful

    Thanks

It may offer you some alternatives. Have used MMC Pro regularly with great success, although always worth testing out any new product on a new surface.

  • Thanks Gary. much appreciated

  • We use Mogeton too - and have found it effective at as little as 50% of the recommended dilution, so experiment a bit (a jar doesn't go far used at full strength!).
  • Thanks Nick. Sounds like the one to use

  • I have been using mmc pro this season and had some superb results, quite happy with it, though it would be good to do a price comparison per m2 with anything. moss and algea treatment is so much more expensive than weed killer!

  • Thanks Dan. Its a new Sandstone Patio completed in August and already showing algae coverage. I fear the worst if left untreated over the winter

  • A low concentration spray now and again in March and once every 3-6 months should do a good job of keeping the stuff at bay.

I have now swapped from Mogeton to Safor - A very good and cost effective product.
