Mortar damage

HiHas anyone else had an issue with damaged mortar given the very cold and prolonged winter? We've got one job where a section of a garden wall (constructed during the end of last summer) which is showing signs of damage.ThanksIan

  • Ian, yes we've had some damage too. Hardly surprising when it got down to minus 12 on walls that had been built for less than a month. A bummer but that's the way things are in this game. We are, of course, repairing all damage free of charge as soon as the weather improves.
    As an aside we found some years ago that frost prooofing agents can actually damage mortar if batched incorrectly. One to keep your eye on if you use the stuff.

  • I have just applied another coat of vandex to a pond that was scratch coated with chicken mesh and pins, render coat with a sponge finish and two thick slurry coats of vandex.

    As soon as I went to assess the fault It was clear that frost had indeed damaged .5m area to the shelving of the pond, the infected area has been removed and re-rendered.

    We have rectified the defect caused by the elements and have another two people who speak good words to their friends, family and customers.

    Bound to get snags once in a while.
