I think you'll find the top one is the latest model which I believe is lighter than the old bottom one. I've had one of the old models for years and never had a problem.
I thought that the top one is for the Kombi & the second for the telescopic pole saw. I agree the second one is similar to the old design that's very strong.
What's up with your old one?
It's 25 years old :) Unfortunately the quality & life expectancy is going down, even with Stihl.
German engineering rubbish!
I have a Stihl backpack blower that's even older. But the new Stihl products won't last that long. The "old" polesaw isn't heavy. I would rather buy something built for strength rather than weight. Plus the 3/4 chain means only needing one sharpener :)
Makes me wonder what's better for the environment a machine that last 20yrs, that doesn't have modern emission standards or a machine that lasts 3yrs.
The new one uses a 1/4 chain.
Luckily I have found a dealer with the old one in stock which uses a 3/8
The other difference is that the bar is on the other side on the top/new design, so good if you're left handed, bad if you are right handed.
Yes I noticed that. I am sticking to the old one
