Due to the switch-over from LJN 2.00 to LJN 3.00 this week I've been keen to minimise site down time and make sure that anyone using the site - either as a returning visitor or a new visitor finding our content for the first time - has a smooth experience. There's been a very short blip (about 7 hours) where content was put out of reach.
Whilst checking Google Analytics at about 3.30pm, I looked at our visitor stats in real-time and noticed that 47% of site users were accessing via a mobile device. Checking the same stats just now (6.44pmGMT) I can see that 50% of online users are using desktop devices (I assume this includes laptops?) with roughly 25% using a tablet and 17% using a mobile phone.

This is interesting. Only about three years ago I made a note that LJN's mobile traffic was made up of just 18% of total site traffic. It's now clear that more and more people are going mobile.
I guess the nature of our industry tends to lend itself to mobile because, essentially, we are a predominantly made up of mobile type of businesses.
Even as I type this I can see the numbers fluctuating. As we enter the busiest time of the day and as more land on LJN I anticipate more and more people will use mobile as they sit on the sofer, or perhaps even sit in the bath, rather than sit at a desk.
I'll try and make a note at 9.00pmGMT and see how different the numbers are.

I didn't manage to record the platforms in real time last night but I've just done it now. To be honest I'm quite surprised. I really thought that the majority of people would be accessing on a mobile device.
Of course we must not take this data as the norm but the desktop (at least this evening) is leaving the way. This is the busiest part of our day.
