money money money £500 a day !

How much is a day-off 'worth' to you?

to:

go mountain-biking on a great track in wales ?

go for a nice walk/ picnic by a canal or the sea?

do your own garden / or sit in the sun listening to music/reading?

or go for a country drive in your classic car or motorbike / sailing boat?

have you had a day-off or booked a holiday recently?

if not what price would you put on a day out relaxing !?

  • health before wealth !

  • What sort of work did he expect you to do for that £2500!?

One of my high end clients offered me £2500 to work ONE day, cash upfront, had it in his hand ready to give to me, I turned it down as the day he wanted me to work was my wife's birthday, I needed a day off with my wife, a day spent making her feel important, not my clients and no amount of money was going to change my mind....
  • Bloody hell, my other half would of made me work that and then go away for a fortnight!

I dont price days off or worry about their value - its a day off... Instead focus on going out for a good coffee and enjoy the world! Somethings you really cant price and those are your family, your health and a bit of R & R's value for your body and soul is priceless.

    Im with you david

i would of given the wife the choice because i know what she would say to that

  • Harry, I applaud you for that.

I would have spoken to my wife, we'd agree on a wee holiday, then I'd do the job, then more work would get booked in and the money would get spent without knowing where!!

Although I shouldn't I always end up working out how much a day off has cost me. However having just worked 21 days without a day off (including the bank holidays) I am now taking next weekend as my time. I do this job to be my own boss and have a decent work life balance. This month the balance tipped the wrong way!
  • If I wanted a day off but a client wanted work done I guess it would indeed take close to the 500 in the title to encourage me to work it instead.

  • At the moment with college still running, I'm working near 6 days plus the 7th for college (though that's not really working is it?) ..anyway, I've come to the conclusion that working almost 7 days is a bit much, so to be honest its not money, its spending time with the family that I miss. Agree with Harry, ok 2500 is a mental amount of money for a single days work but he has a heart to put the other half first and you got to applaud people for that!

Why are you guys working??? Ask yourself that, it is to be rich and be a millionaire or have a family.... sometimes though saying no, sorry I can't work is the hardest thing to say to my clients, crazy

You have got a family and are working 7 days a week ? Shame on you. Life is to short to think about money. Unfortunately one of my sisters is such a fat beached whale she wants every thing done for her.

  • I say family I mean, Mum and girlfriend, I havent got kids if that's what you mean Stuart. Genera;;y speaking I have had a day off but things seem to have got a bit out of hand at the moment and the girlfriend wants a nice holiday, so I will work bloddy hard to get that for her..

Also my van had a huge bill for the dpf had to be replaced, it will soon be up for sale, as I only do short runs and it isn't worth risking it again. So to be fair, yes I agree, if I can cut down a day and make myself to more fixed priced jobs I will do so. But first I have a month til college finishes and also got to sell the van. There isn't enough hours in a day :(
