Mighty Mac - Woodsman 10, any advice

All,Been calling and keeping an eye out of a small commercial shredder to do, small trees, shrubs, hedges etc.I have called a local machinery shop to me and they have a MM, I'm sure it's a Woodsman 10 with a 13.5 hp engine apparently!!, (sounds good engine eh) from a previous seller, they've bought it back 2nd hand and want to sell it for £300, which sounds a v good price, it's in v good condition apparently. It chips just below the 3" apparently. Now all sounds good, but not if it can't do the job it's suppose to do, I'd rather spend 1.5k and get a machine that will.I can't find an really good reviews, so has anyone used, got one, or any solid advice would be really good.Thank youAndrew

  • Hi. Maybe a timberwolf with a 13hp honda would suit. Not sure of the costings though. Or the old entec,'tree busta' often fitted with a kohler either 13 or 15hp.

  • I bought  a Allen Mighty Mac over ten years ago new. They were red then with option of a 6hp or 9hp B&S engine. Only kept it for a year or so and part ex it towards a Honda mower. The chipper was gravity fed and painfully slow on the branches nearing 3 inches. Also any branch that was not straight would not cut and jam. The shredder side of it was a little more useful. A great machine for use in your own garden, but not for the demands of commercial work. You will be forever waiting for it. Back then I just wanted to reduce the volume of my waste not use the chip/mulch.  I found it quicker to remove the waste from site in a mesh sided ifor trailer. If you are going to use it often I would definately spend the £1500 and get a machine that will get through the work.

  • There's been plenty on here on a similar subject.  What we want is a managable chipper/shreader, that will handle small to medium stuff at speed, not drop it onto the floor for me to clear up........and all at a reasonable price.  The nearest I can find is the Greenmech 100 at around £4k - lot of money.
